FREEDOM of all DOGS is in great danger in ALL PARKS IN TOWER HAMLETS, including Victoria Park!
In Summer 2024, Tower Hamlets Council ran a public consultation on introducing new restrictions on dogs in the borough. These could even mandate every dog be on lead at all times in public spaces, including parks!
We helped campaign against the toughest restrictions, urging the council to find a reasonable and proportionate set of restrictions for the benefit of all of Tower Hamlets.
Tower Hamlets Council’s Mayor & Cabinet will make a final decision on these restrictions in the cabinet meeting April 30th 2025.
We’re pleased to say that the recommendations from the consultation report are fairly reasonable (see table below).
Please contact your councillors before then to encourage the Mayor & Cabinet to approve the recommendations and not go any further!
Tower Hamlets Council debate “Reject or significantly reduce proposed Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) against dogs” on Wed 20th Nov 2024
The public consultation closed on Nov 6th. As part of this, we submitted a detailed report covering a wide range of arguments against the PSPO restrictions that concern dog owners and dogs, as well as the wider community.
As best as we understand from MPs and council officers, we believe about March-April is a realistic timeframe for when a report will be put to the Mayor and Cabinet for final decision.
